We've used our Wiser system since Dec 2017 and I'm annoyed that we've only just discovered this fact. Making this change has made such a difference, especially during really cold weather.
Having a system that reacts to a temperature reading (the TRV) just 5cm from the heat source (the radiator) was always going to be somewhat 'flawed'. The Wiser system though calculates the temp taking that factor into account. In most cases it's reasonably accurate.
In some of our rooms, especially the larger ones, I'd be sitting 10' from the radiator and despite Wiser shutting down the TRV because it calculates the room as being at 21°c, I can feel there's no way it's 21°c. Long ago I bought an accurate portable recording thermometer and over time adjusted the setpoint on the Wiser app to give me 21°c (or whatever I desired). In most cases that involved cranking the temp up to 22°c or 23°c - such a pity you can only make half degree adjustments. For some rooms I was even able to bring it down below 21°c!
However for larger rooms with multiple radiators getting the correct temperature at the point in the room we were sitting always proved a challenge. We were continually fighting against Wiser's averaging calculation of the temp across the multiple TRVs. We'd end up with one part of the room warm but the other end still cool.
Then I discovered something that I wish I'd know from day one. The temperature reading at the Wiser Room Thermostat (RT) trumps those of the TRVs. Placing an RT at the place in the room where we're sitting (or close to) means the system will keep the TRVs open until the RT measures our desired temp.
So now I've splashed out and put RTs in the main living areas of the house. They've proven so much more accurate than the temp readings at the TRVs. I'm sure there will be some reading this thinking 'doh! Imagine him not knowing that!' but the fact the RT reading overrides the TRV reading was not made clear to me whrn we put the system in. Using these RT readings though has made a huge difference to the overall comfort from the system.
It's such a pity they are so expensive. A much simpler device - without the display screen - is all that's required to measure temps from wherever we want within a room.
