How to read the Vaillant eBus

I have a Vaillant EcoTec Plus boiler. I don't want to control it but I'd like to be able to read the values of flow and return temperature so I can plot them on a graph.

I've searched the internet and it appears that this can be done with an Arduino, but most of the posts on the subject are in German which I don't speak.

Does anyone here have any relevant experience please?

Mike

How to reset/clear an HR80?

Can anyone help me with this?

Had a battery leak in one, so swapped a couple around. One seems to still think it's back where it started from. It's now in a room which isn't under Evo control.

Can't seem to find my paperwork for this.

Can anyone help?

Evohome - comfortable temperature

Hi All,

I'm new to the forums and just installed my evohome system last night.

I set the schedules up with 19 as my "comfortable" temperature and 16 as an overnight/empty room temperature. This is comparable to what we had set on the old thermostat, however that was in the hall which it turns out is probably a lot cooler than the rest of the house.

As a result the house felt pretty cold this morning so I've adjusted the schedules to 21 for "comfortable", 18 overnight and 19 for bedrooms during the day that may be used occasionally. This feels a bit high based purely on the numbers but time will tell if this is the right temperature.

My question is, what do you have yours set to and am I just being a softy? Did anyone else have to adjust their expectations when moving to individual room control?

In addition, we have a gro egg thermometer in my daughters room and it seems to show a temperature circa 2 degrees lower than the Hr92 despite only being a metre apart. Which is more likely to be correct?

Adding to my system

Hi all,
I have an existing Evohome install that consists of Underfloor heating on the ground floor with an HCC80R, and radiators upstairs with HR92's. Each zone has a T87RF2033 thermostat. We are having an extension built and need to add at least one (possibly 2) underfloor loops. The extension will form a kitchen diner in an orangery (the second loop would be a utility that doesn't really need independent control), and will include an existing underfloor circuit controlled by the existing HCC80R. The existing manifold has no spare ports, and routing back to it would be challenging. My questions are :-

- Presuming we need a new manifold I the extension, do I need to add an additional HCC80R. If so can a single zone be operated from two different HCC80R's. Do I just need power for the HCC80R ?
- Would the HM80 be an option if I am happy for the loops in the new manifold to operate together (and again can I bind a HM80 to the zone that already includes the HCC80R zone)
- Should I push to upgrade the existing manifold, but this would mean a routing challenge to get to the new floor slab)

I am also maxxed out on evohome zones (but I do have two ensuites that don't really need to be independently controlled from the bedrooms as originally installed)

This will all be installed by my builders plumber, but I am not sure he will know about what may be a reasonably exotic setup, and the electrician had only done installs with a wired thermostat.

Any other advice welcomed.

Thanks,
Neil

Anomalies/Faults in newly installed Evohome system

Have recently installed an Evohome controller with 8 separate zones controlled by HG92 valves on the radiators and a Honeywell BDR relay for communication with the boiler. We have an Valliant Ecotec 831 boiler that is about 6 years old. It has been running for about a week and optimisation is not being used

1. Last night (3am) one valve suddenly registered 0 degrees. After 35 minutes it then registered the 15 degrees I was expecting.
Is this a faulty valve or is it a loss of communication between the valve and the controller? No other valve had this behaviour. The valve itself is showing no sign of low battery. We do not have animals so there was no change in the environment or the path to the controller.
Any suggestions?

2. I am monitoring performance with Domocitz on a Raspberry Pi. Overnight it appeared that all the zones demanded/received heat (as indicated by the rise in temperature on the HG 92 ) even though all zones were on the set temperature. Is this just the evohome algorithms predicting that the temperature is about to drop and bring in a small demand early. If so why would the overshoot be up 1.5 degrees before coming back down. In addition the registered temperature never went below the set point unlike the oscillation around the set point when set at higher temperatures

3. People on the forum seem to indicate a small saving of energy with this system. We were looking for increased comfort rather than gas savings but current indications are that we are using slightly more gas than when the house was run via a single thermostat in the hall. I wonder if part of the reason for this is the fact that the oscillation around the set point in the morning starts at a 2 degree swing before settling down. Is this size of oscillation normal? Will this decrease as the system "learns" the environment? Does the system "learn" the environment with out Optimisation.

4. Finally a request for help in locating a Honeywell HG 180. We have found them for sale in the European mainland but no-seems prepared to ship to the UK. Not being able to monitor the demand on the boiler means we are trying to understand the system with only half the information.

Thanks

DG.

Evohome newbie - App issues

I only had the honeywell evohome system installed last week (13th Dec 2018). The app was working fine until around 7.30pm on 16th Dec when it lost all my room information. 3 days later it has not fixed itself. All 12 rooms have no name or temperature, and all show as trying to reach 62 degrees. If I log into the website, it also shows the same.

On Sunday I logged a ticket with honeywell consumer support via the website & I've separately sent an email to the developer. It's now Wednesday and neither have replied. Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I can get it to show my room information again. It shows correctly on the controller at home.

I spent a lot of money getting this system installed, and one of the key selling points for me was that you can use your phone as a controller of individual rooms.

Thanks
Karen

IPD 001 Power supplies

Hi all,

It seems to be quite quiet on here these days!

I have 2 IPDs at the moment and they both have their own power supplies. I think one may be on it's way out, which got me thinking ... Does anyone have any thoughts on replacing the 75W power supplies with a 150W+ power supply so in the event one dies unexpectedly, you can run both IPDs on a single power supply till a replacement is obtained?

Thanks.

Logitech Harmony

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/1...ny_smart_home/

Not a system I know but this is exactly the thing that made me nervous of any system which leaves me under their control what I can and cannot do with the system.
I expect as IoT and so on matures, we'll see a lot of this as earlier adopters suffer. I saw people say Honeywell had stopped discussing their EvoHome API on here for instance.

Any here affected?

Evohome - temporary comms fault from all devices

Hello,

I've been using my evohome for about 3 years now.
I have an evohome controller, a boiler relay, several HR92 valves and a few sensors (room thermostart DTS92).

This has been working great until a few days ago when I started to get comms faults from the boiler relay and the sensors (never from the actuators). The faults don't happen all at the same time, but with gaps among them.
Checking the fault logbook on the controller I could see that the only faults in the last year were due to low batteries, until all these comms faults started happening.
The connections seem to get restored after a bit (minutes or hours), but sometimes the fact that they are restored doesn't appear in the fault logbook (despite the connection clearly working).

I tried turning the controller off and on again (erm... by letting the battery run out, is there any way to actually reboot it?), did comms checks (all fine) and recharged all the batteries for the controllers.

My search on this forum and elsewhere didn't bring up anything similar, but I saw a few people with comms problem with the boiler relay. In that case the suggestion was to reset the controller and rebind the relay.
I'm a bit scared of resetting everything. If I lose all the settings I will have to spend hours to reset everything up :'( and maybe the problem won't be solved.

Evohome: single zone shows as in economy mode

On the main controller, our kitchen has a green € symbol which I think indicates economy mode?
But we never use this.

I'd it a bug or does this mean something different? It's a white symbol on a green background in the bottom right of the tile... Clicking into the zone shows no indication of this.

Evohome - I have 2 problems

Hope someone can help.

First problem occurred today. Hot water has been turned on for a couple of hours but on the Evohome control panel and app the temperature is being reported as 22.0 degrees.
I also had some failed zone change alerts a few hours ago, which I assume is connected with this problem, but I'm not getting those now.
Temperatures all reporting OK from the HR92's.
Is there something I need to do with the BDR91 to reset it or rebind it?

The second problem I have is with the TotalConnectComfort web page where I log in and set temperatures/monitor Evohome from a browser.
This has been working fine for several years and suddenly a few weeks ago the page loads OK, I log in and can use it but after about 30minutes the page starts to constantly refresh, with the 'loading' message and I can't do anything other than close the webpage.
If I clear the cookies, it fixes the problem for a while but then goes back to constant refreshing. I get this on different browsers and different PCs in my house. Evohome support haven't been able to help and just said t must be something to do with my router settings. I've tried disabling the firewall and checking it's not preventing certain content from getting through, but haven't found anything to help.
I'm at a total loss as to know what to try next.

Edit - seems from another thread that others are having problems with temperatures mis-reported on the app. I think that's what's happening with mine as well because the controller is now reporting the correct water temp. but the app is still stuck on 22.0.

Intermittent evohome "COMMS FAULT ACTUATOR"

We've started seeing this about once a day always for the same room, which is furthest away from the control unit.

Does it just imply that room is just a little too far away? Or could it be a new issue given we haven't had this until recently? When would this error occur... Only when it is trying to set the actuator, or the moment it can't reach it? I ask as it's a room we set very cold.

Advice wanted for smart home heating

Hi all,

I'm looking for system recommendations please as I'm looking to convert my current (4 bed detatched, built 2014) heating system to a smart system.
The current system is a two zone heating system (upstairs and downstairs wired stats) plus hot water (s plan plus).

There are nine rooms (two of those have two rads, all others have one rad) that I wish to control individually, the remainder (landing, hallway, w/c and utility room) would have standard TRVs.
There is an automatic bypass fitted after the pump.

Thinking to the future, I'm hoping to extend the house, keeping the same number of rooms but moving to three of the nine rooms having underfloor heating. It's possible that two of the three rooms would need at least two UFH circuits each, given the floor area. So any system recommendation should have the ability to be upgraded to be able to control a UFH and rads mixed system (still with 9 individually control rooms).

Many thanks, have a great Christmas and New Year!

Getting started with smart devices

Hi, I'm completely new to home automation, but fairly tech savvy in general. I've just been bought a Google home, which has prompted me to start looking into home automation, starting with light switches. Reading around, there's a ton of different systems, each of which requires their own hub. That brings two issues. One is that, as I build up the automated home, I don't want to be tied to one vendor, but I also don't want to have millions of different hubs. The second is that we've got a large old house, with thick walls. We've had to use 3 wireless APs just to get WiFi coverage, so I also don't want to have to buy 3 of every hub.

So, initial questions:

Is the range of these hubs better than WiFi?

I know there are vendor agnostic hubs such as Smartthings or openhab. Do the switches connect directly to these, or do you still need the vendor hubs as well?

Some devices seem to just connect over WiFi. This seems far more sensible, but they're in the minority. Why don't more connect directly over WiFi?

Thanks!

Notification on Amazon Echo when circuit energised

I would like a notification on my phone and or Amazon Alexa devices when my washing machine has finished its cycle. I do not have any hubs just the Amazon Echo.

On my washing machine I have an led that lights when the cycle is done, so I would just like an alert when the led is energised.

What do I need to complete this?

Evohome controller power adapter failed

The power adapter for my Evohome controller has failed. Anybody know where I can get a new one ASAP?? Various plumbing suppliers have the complete unit with stand, but nobody seems to offer just the power adapter!!

Use HR92 as a normal clock TRV?

Hi,
I would like to add a time-schedule to the heating of my hallway (now has a mechanical TRV). I have a spare HR92, however, I don't want the CH to turn on specially for the hallway. I just want the radiator to open and close if needed, based on the set-point. Is there anyway to do this using the HR92, or do I need to get a non-Evohome clock TRV?

https://honeywelluk.com/ certificate expired

I don't know if any Honeywell guys still read this forum but a heads up.

Your certificate for https://honeywelluk.com/ expired on the 19th of December, you might want to sort that out. ;)

It looks like this domain name is not used as much more than a redirect domain now, however Google searches for Honeywell products are still providing hits that go to this domain.

For example I was trying to do a google search for the HR90 to respond in another thread when I stumbled across this expired certificate...

Evohome Underfloor zone issues

I have one zone in the UFH that is being controlled by the wrong thermostat.

The Hall zone is bound to a thermostat, but turns on and off with the Evohome Controller that is allocated to the Living Room. The Hall actuator fires when the Living Room demands heat. It does not fire when the Hall thermostat demands heat.

I have re-bound several times and deleted the zone and re-created it, but to no avail. The other zones bound to thermostats are OK.

Has anybody experienced this problem? I also have the problem with the System Summary page, but I guess this is not related. See:

Evohome S plan setup problems, BDR does not fire CH - help pls

New to this excellent Forum, read almost all, but did not fix my problem, hoping someone can help.

Current setup: S-plan, 2 motorised valves (CH and HW), each valve is connected to a BDR (call it BDRHW & BDRCH). New ATAG IR32 heat only boiler with external Magna Pump. HW thermo CS92 installed. The CH circuit has no zone valves apart from the CH motor valve, so it is one big circuit/zone, hence me using loads of HR92 TRV to create per room control (zones).

Using Evo guidance I bound CS92 Thermo, BDRHW, and BDRCH using the 2 two port valve option. I kept boiler control as NONE. Default living room zone I select Radiator valve and bound one HR92. Signal strength excellent for all and prior to setup I reset everything (BDR, CS92, Controller, HR92s).

Result:
- HW works as should, i.e. BDRHW turns on and off when temp limits reached and opens HW valve which in turn gives power to boiler which in turns has its own logic to control Pump, heat and overrun. When overrun occurs valve closes and overrun circulates via bypass (not heat efficient, but hey).
- CH is the problem, HR92 communicates with Controller (ATC928G3000) and shows temp as measured by HR92 and any overrides from controller or HR92 will reflect to each other, good. However, when it should call for heat BDRCH does not trigger. Strangely if I setup Living room as a zone valve and bind etc then it works as it should, so BDRCH is not faulty (I even bough 3rd one to check). However, the latter is the wrong setup for me as I cannot have 10 zone valves for the 10 rooms..... It has to be Radiator via HR92 driven, but these never trigger the BDRCH!

I noticed DBMandrake commenting on other forums and his input always makes sense to me, but why does my controller not trigger the BDRCH?

So I started to play around and trial other combinations (desperation....):
- BDRCH bound to boiler relay, BDRHW bound to Hot water valve only, CS92 bound as usual. Still radiator zones dont trigger or I get BOTH BDRCH and HW trigger when HW should only be on. Strange, but makes sense if boiler control means to switch on boiler directly (no valve) then it would need one relay to open valve and other to start boiler. This I dont need since the boiler start is controlled by the motorised valve.
- BDRHW and thermostat and BDRCH bound as 2 two port valve, boiler relay NONE. Then I get confused by "sensor" and "actuator", thinking former is HR92 and latter is BDR, but that seems not the case. Accuator can be HR92 and/or BDR....hmmm. I thought HR92 only feeds temp to controller and Controller decides if temp deficit exists and then triggers heat demand via BDRCH.

Does anyone have similar CH trigger issues on a system like mine that is essentially vanilla basic? Controller is on firmware 1 so have not tried firmware 2 if it makes a diff, although it should not.

Further confusion:
create a new zone with 1 HR92. It asks to bind "sensor" so I use HR92 with success, decline further radiator sensors so zone binding complete. When temp trigger BDRCH does not switch on.

create a new zone with 2 HR92s. Asks me to bind "sensor" so I use HR92 with success, then it asks to bind "actuator" (?) it does not accept 1st HR92 (makes sense), accepts second HR92, now two actuators bound 2way (now both called actuator), strangely does not ask if I had more HR92s, zone binding complete. Neither trigger BDRCH.

When using the RF bound devices menu it gets even more topsy turvy...... time for a double single malt please.

At present to survive the cold I use a single zone valv config bound to BDRCH in order to heat house. No room zones, HR92 acting standalone - no wireless control. HW works fine never had a problem with that.

I hope someone can point me to what must be a very simple and stupid fix otherwise I am worried if any of the Evohome engineers ever work for Boeing or Airbus.....;-p
