Newbie Evohome (Miss)Understanding

Some more help needed please as I can’t get to grasps with it my Evohome! I think I understand the concept of it as I had a programmable thermostat in my previous home and I know that the system is not off or on. (BTW, I like to think that I am a bit of a techie so want to get to grips with this)

I have checked and all radiators work by:-
a. Manual override
b. Control panel

All room doors closed.

Firstly – am I right in thinking that if you use the manual override on the HR92 then this takes precedence over the programming (ie even if you pass a setpoint in the programme times the temperature will not change until you turn the HR92 back.)

My system appears to have a mind of its own as the temperatures on the controller do not match the room temperature. I have stood a thermometer next to where the HR92 is and there can be a difference of at least 3 degrees, for instance air temp is 16 degrees (and feels 16 degrees) but the controller is reading 18.5C so the radiator is therefore not kicking in.

For instance, this morning (all radiators are set at 10C during the night) The bathroom and hall were set to 19C at 6am. Heard the hall valve turn at about 5.50am so all good. (Both bathroom and hall radiators were hot at 6am) BUT the kitchen radiator was also on. I checked the HR92 display and checked the controller and neither had been overridden.

Last night –
kitchen reading 21.5C on the controller,
sitting room reading 18.5 on controller (smallish room with door shut and large flat screen TV on so room felt at least 22C )
hall reading 19C but more like 16C

Can someone guide me through how to check that everything as it should be.

I suppose my goal is how can I get each room to be at an optimum temperature at least in the evening to stop my husband moaning that it is too cold!

Good looking Z-Wave Wallplates ?

Good Morning All

My first post, having spend a lot of time reading through the various entries here, all very interesting and has helped a lot so far.

I have spent a lot of time researching products for a small amount of home automation that I would like to install, it does not justify engaging an installer or the high end systems. As a result I have found the selection of products available to the DIY’er are quite limited. I am looking to use a technology that is likely to have future scalability and availability so am looking at Z-Wave (any other suggestion ?). My challenge is to upgrade the lighting in 2 rooms, fairly simple requirements. Ability to turn lights on at the door, selecting a scene would be good, lights to be controller are ceiling and table lamps etc. Also want other controls, in one room it can be a simple hand held remote, in the other room I wanted to replicate the wallplate, so there will be 3 that are similar or the same as the one by the door. I can deal with the dimmers themselves (plug in or in wallboxes etc), there are lots to choose from but I am stuck with the wall plate devices. Unless I spend over £300 each it would appear there is nothing that is aesthetically pleasing and functional. It would seem you can get white plastic wallplates (switches/dimmers) for about £40, but nothing that is brushed stainless or similar. If you consider the incremental cost of a nicely finished manual switch, they are about £20 more expensive, but as soon as you want Z wave as well the price is sky high, perhaps due to low production volumes ? I have seen some really nice ones (Vitrum or MK Astral) but with prices to match, in the case of Vitrum, these are in a class of their own on looks, but the MK is not special. I have found a number of other products outthere but no distributors so I guess they are available to installers only, is this the case with a lot of Z-wave kit ?

If I compromise on the technology, selection of Z wave then LightWaveRF looks good, but single source and lack of status reporting (future expansion requirements)

Does anyone have any suggestions for nice looking Z wave wallplates that are reasonably priced (maybe up to £150 each ?) or another route I could go down ?

Thanks

Fluorescent tube and qld

Hi guys,

An odd question, but I have a 5a socket wired to one of the channels on a qld. I'd like to connect a floor lamp with a tube in it to the socket. If I don't dim the qld (ie only use 0%and 100%) can I connect the lamp or will inrush currents et al fry the dimming circuit.

I know I'm being lazy, but it will be a real pain to find another relay channel in node 0.

Thanks, Peter.

I found a few interesting smart home products, but cannot figure out what system works well. Read some reviews, but those were more advertisements then reviews.
Can anybody on this forum advice or share their experience with these systems?
The systems I came accross:

- intraHouse Home automation
- Revolv
- Qivicon
- Home Wizard
Thanks.

OT: SIM Desk Phone options?

Hi all,

Until recently I have been using one of these -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151456559223
- in a location with no landline and poor mobile reception. It has worked quite well given that the phone needed to be obvious and easy to use for multiple people plus hard to lose or leave lying around like most mobile phones these days.

Anyhow after nearly two years it seems as if the main chip has risen to the silicon god in the sky and before I go and buy another one just wondered if anyone knew of any alternatives that I should consider.

Long term I would also like to have a laptop at the same location with internet connectivity so if there were a dream device that allowed tethering as well as the above functionality for around the same money, then hey presto we would have a winner.

Thanks all,

Brad

Xantech - HDMI - CAT5 - HDMI

Good morning. I have gone through the threads already on here, but couldn’t quite find a thread that had my particular problem, so I thought I would give it a go.

I have recently bought a house and moved in. Afterwards when the Sky man arrived, we realised we had trouble. There is a Xantech (MRC88) system in the loft space with CAT5 cables all over the house and speakers in the ceilings. It works well and I was mildly amused for a while until I got tired of the pixilated images and decided to upgrade to HD without replacing it with a HD Xantech system (if there is such a thing). I’ve tried various combinations of RCA to HDMI converters and then extend the signal via a HDMI extender down the CAT5 cable and then ultimately to the TV. The picture is always a little pixilated and the sound has a lag in some cases. I was hoping there would be an all in one solution. I have found a Xantech HDMI distribution switch but that’s not going to extend over CAT5 and I cant see how to use that with my existing mrc88. I’m looking for something that can convert RCA to HDMI and extend over CAT5 in one appliance.

UNLESS I can het a Xantech HDMI replacement for the MRC88 which I cant find on the internet?

Yesterday, I changed the parameters for the Evohome HW Kit from 60 to 65C in the settings menu. Everything appears to have been set up correctly but the hot water is still only heating up to 60C. I must be missing something but I am not sure what.

There is some free online training which allows anyone to be trained on evohome. The training is mainly aimed at allowing new installers to get familiar with evohome. But this is open to anyone who wants to know more about evohome or is possibly attempting a installation themselves. A lot of the questions on the forum maybe would help from this resource.

Reflex prescence and Dimmer Control

Hi Guys,

I have had Idratek up and running for a few weeks now (Mostly controlling lights, extractor fans and towel radiators) and all seems to be going well. I have had a few glitches with power cuts (they happen quite often around here) and Cortex laptop crashes but a combination of Defibralator, Watchdog functionality and manual reset to Reflex via DRB have been handling this.
With the repeated fallbacks to Reflex lately I have started working through my Reflex backup functionality to bring it closer inline with the Cortex behaviour. I find that I am struggling with a few areas though. For example:
  • I have setup reflex to turn on a set of lights when A PLH detects motion, however I cant work out how to turn the lights off again after a period of time.
  • Also, I am currently limited to turning any lights connected to QLDs either 100% on or Off. I cant figure out how to select 50% for example.

Whereas the Reflex Insight tool is very helpfull I feel there is so much more to the relex command structure that I am missing. Is there any detailed documentation (other than the Help file) on Reflex programing. I have created a few basic reflex packets but these really are quite basic

Regards

Mark

Evohome HR92 operation lock ?

I'm sure I saw reference to this somewhere but for the life of me I can't find it ...

Is it possible to 'lock' an HR92 so that the temperature can't be changed by turning the dial ? I'd like to do this in the kids room so we don't go from freezing cold to 'summer in Sahara' by 'accident' ;)
According to the instructions there's an icon for 'operation lock' but no description of how to activate it or what it does.

Missing zones on evohome app - steps to help

$

Some users maybe getting missing zones after the recent app & gateway upgrade. Whilst very rare, here are the steps to help rectify. The Gateway needs to be reset to remove any old settings and memory, and rebound back into the system. You do not need to delete or readd to the TCC online account.

1. Clear gateway binding (very important)
press and hold gateway button (under base) for >5 seconds until RF LED (middle) goes out.

2. Clear gateway binding at evotouch:
Press and hold “SETTINGS” button on home screen for >5 seconds until “SYSTEM CONFIGURATION” screen appears.
Press green tick to proceed to “INSTALLATION MENU”
Press “SYSTEM DEVICES” button
Press “REMOTE GATEWAY” button
Press “NO REMOTE GATEWAY” button”
Press back arrow button to return to “INSTALLATION MENU”

3. Put gateway in to binding mode
Press gateway button for ~1 second until RF LED starts flashing green.

4. Bind evotouch to gateway
From “INSTALLATION MENU” screen:
Press “ADD GATEWAY” button
Press green BIND button in the centre of the screen.

If binding is successful, the evotouch will show “SUCCESS” screen, and gateway RF LED will go solid green.
If binding is unsuccessful, repeat ALL steps.

Please wait 5 minutes before checking that the APP has all the correct zone information.

Question about Evohome Install

$

Hi Guys,
I am finally getting my Evohome installed tomorrow as I was waiting to have a new hot water tank installed. I have a vented system, and I will be running 10 HR92 valves. I also bought the base kit and the hot water kit. The hot water tank is now under the boiler, so my question is do I need to install separate wireless relay boxes (bdr91) for the boiler and hot water tank, even if they are going to be next to each other?? Is this also quite straight forward for a plumber to install? I am fine with the setup, its just the connection to the boiler and tank I am not too sure about..

Also with the hr92's installed, i have had them setup for a while running with the normal programmer as a test, and I have noticed that they need to be calibrated for each room - the temp seems to be a bit off. Is this usual to have to do this??

Thanks guys. Nick
