Evohome Upgrade

Hi

I have had Evohome operating in my home for about 3 years now, and when I originally purchased it, it came with a bridge to provide connectivity between wireless home control and the home wifi, along with away from home. What I am trying to understand is it possible to replace the wireless home control with one that incorporates and wifi bridge, or do I need replace everything?

Weissman Vitodens 111-W with Nest V3 - Not running in OpenTherm

I've just moved into a new (to us) house which has a Vitodens 111-W installed along with a Nest V3. The Nest is configured as On/Off (not OpenTherm).

I believe I may benefit from switching to OpenTherm config. How would this be best achieved? I suspect the boiler is not configured for OpenTherm. Is there anything else that I need to consider prior to making any changes?

The long (short) term plan is to swap out the Nest for tado and install the tado TRVs. I have the tado kit already to go, but just don't have the time having only just moved in.

Cheers

Whatever Happened to MyJoulo

I purchased and installed a Drayton 'Wiser' system a couple of weeks ago and have some doubts as to how well it is working ?

I then remembered that I had a MyJoulo USB logger that simply logged room temperatures.

Alas they seem to have vanished ? Anyone know if if this is still supported by someone ?

The product was neat and very easy to use unlike the eBay purchased Elitech logger that has user unfriendly software.

ATAG One - Pre-Heating

We had an Atag IC Economiser 35 boiler and One Controller (opentherm) installed in Feb 2018.

Generally so far we've been very happy with it, but it did replace a 20 year old Glowworm system boiler, cylinder and tank which was making all sorts of strange noises (so a low starting point!).

We run this set up using weather compensation and the "more" influence setting which does a good job of responding to the external temperature (via the One Controller/Internet, not a weather sensor on the boiler). Generally this keeps the temp in our hall where the One Controller is to the desired temperature, although this can drift upwards to +1C over several hours which I think is a combination of warm air circulating from other rooms and perhaps a slightly oversized boiler that can't modulate as low as perhaps required. I'm playing with the heating curves to try and stop this happening.

My main bugbear really is that the One Controller never kicks in to pre-heat the house ahead of schedule (similar to Nest's "True Radiance"?). The boiler comes on only at the pre-set time which we manually have to judge, normally 45-60 min before we get up in the morning.

Does anyone else have any problems with this feature?

We have the pre-heating setting currently set to 1 hour, although we've tried 2, 3 hours and automatic to no effect.

I initially had some good contact with Atag here in the UK who suggested that we might be better of without weather compensation and using plain old thermostatic control. However we found that mode didn't control the house temperature very well and made the boiler switch on and off more regularly. The opentherm/weather compensation mode of constantly circulating warm water of varying temperatures seems to be much better than on/off.

However Atag have stopped engaging and responding to my emails :-(

In my home office I have a new, large vertical rad (9000 BTU I think) with an HR92 set to 19C. It's not behind a sofa or anything but it has huge issues reporting the temperature correctly. Today my desk thermometer says it is 15C but the HR92 thinks is is 20C and has turned off. It seems the moment the rad comes on, the unit heats up and on cold days, the room doesn't get warm.

Whereas in the summer when the ambient is perhaps 17C, the room was sweltering and I basically turned the valve off... which is the exact opposite of the point of the evohome setup!

I've given up and ordered a separate thermostat but that's another £70 to make the thing do what it surely is supposed to anyway. It's not like the radiator is stuck behind a sofa, though my heating system does run very hot to get enough BTUs out (traditional victorian house so we need a lot of heat).

I just wondered if others massage their settings summer/winter, or just leave it on in the summer and find it works smoothly.

Wall mounting your tablet device?

Hey all, looking to wall mount my tablet as create a kind of central smart hub of the house, as have most of the house controls running from one interface on my tablet.

Just wondering what solutions every one else has tried or is using?

I have seen things like iPort but they cost upwards of $300 for the set up, and also i saw this on Kickstarter the other day: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...harger-for-you

Would be good to share some ideas.

Thanks

Newbie to SMART heating

I am just looking at introducing a smart heating set up into my home as I currently work all hours and do not have a time that I know I will be home, so wanted to place some smart heating that I can operate from my phone.

There are many appliances out there and I am after a good one at a reasonable price. If there is anyone that can help.

Also do the smart heating equipment work on most boilers.

Honeywell HR92 TRV driving me mad!!

I’ve had my Evohome system for a couple of years now and think it’s great. One thing that is bugging me more and more (can’t work out if it has suddenly got worse or I’m just getting older and grumpier!) but the TRV in our bedroom (might be the others do it too but the bedroom is where I notice it) constantly adjusts itself. It does the usual whirring for 30 secs or so when it first comes on but then at times every couple of minutes or so it does a shorter adjustment. If you’re trying to have a lie in that is really annoying! Not sure if there is a parameter setting I need to tweak or this is perfectly normal, in which case I need to get a new system because right now I just leave the rad off as I’d rather freeze than listen to it! Any tips greatfully received.

EvoHome Zone problems

Hi

I have just installed an EvoHome system and I'm having some problems with one of the zones.

The zone in question is the kitchen and utility room. There's 1 radiator in the kitchen and 1 in the util room. At the moment, the kitchen is quite cold and the util room is hot (since the tumble dryer has just been on). I've set this zone as multi-room and had understood that each radiator should control the draw of heat separately. However, despite the temperature of the zone being set to 20 degrees, both radiators are on. The system is reporting its 24.5 degrees in the zone (its hot in my util room, but I don't think its that hot). Also, the radiator in the kitchen (which this morning was displaying the temperature of the kitchen) is now also saying its 24.5 degrees - no way is it that hot in there.

I'm a bit confused as to whats going on! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Nick

Drayton wiser opentherm and hot water

Searched for an answer to this but couldn't find anything relevant.

How does the drayton wiser system manage hot water when using opentherm? Evohome has a cylinder kit which monitors the tank temperature and adjusts HW flow temps to 80 degrees. Doesn't look like the wiser has anything similar. So how does it work?

DT92E temperature mismatch

I'm sure this is something Im doing wrong!

I've added a DT92E thermostat and BDR91 to control an electric heater. everything seems to have bonded correctly and the "actual temperature" shown on the DT92E and the EvoTouch controller match and update on change, but the "target temperature" when changed on either device never match the other.

If however the target temperate is increased on the Evotouch controller, the BDR91 triggers on, and off when the temperature is reached, as would be expected.

Any pointers?

Strange regular 2C over setpoint temp reading on Kitchen HR92

$

I keep getting a regular 23C temperature read on the kitchen HR92 when the setpoint temp is 21C. Wondering if the reading is being skewed because the radiator is a 2 metre tall vertical type?

Any suggestions please as to why the normal 1.5C tolerance above setpoint doesn't kick in.

I know I could simply input a -2C offset to fix it but would be interested if the accomplished forum genii (latin) have any ideas as to what causes this phenomena.

Thanks.

EvoHome ATF600 power supply issue

$

Hi,

I recently installed a EvoHome system. The EvoTouch panel is installed on an ATF600 wall mount. As there was no room behind the wall mount, the existing thermostat wire was reused. Because of this the power supply of the ATF600 is installed near my boiler.

Occasionally i see a error messages in the EvoTouch log saying something like the power supply is bad. They are very concentrated in time. For hours no error, then dozens in a matter of minutes.

I guess this has something to do with the reused thermostat wire (and its length/resistance).

Any thought on this?

Evohome Zoning - HELP!!!!

$

So, I had Evohome set up as a single zone unit, worked simply, worked well.

I then purchased one HR92 TRV to go on the radiator in the loft where I work to have more control on the cold days working at home.

Can I set the unit up as zoned? No. I can't seem to work out how to do it.
I can find help on how to add a zone but not how to set the unit up as zoned.

Can anyone walk me through it, in really simple terms?!
thank you
