Evohome stops heating for no reason or doesn't even start

Hi,
I've seen a lot of topics on evohome overshooting it's SP.
I seem to experience the opposite.
I got an opentherm gateway after the problems started so I could see what evohome sends to my boiler.
It's a combiboiler with integrated pump.

1) Sometimes i ask for heat and it takes an hour before evohome sends the command to my boiler.
On the evohome you can see that it asks 100% for the boiler and 100% for the zone but it does not send anything to the boiler.

2) After a while it stops heating even when the temperature is not reached. (I'm talking about 5°C from the SP, not just 1°C)
As you can see in the image. It started heating for almost exactly 30 minutes, then the flame status was lost for 5 minutes (but the pump still ran apparantly because I started losing temperature immediatly) before finishing off with a 10 minute restart.
It never came on again. It just started doing it's maniacle overtemperature loop.

In the system menu on the evohome it still says 100% at boiler and 100% for the zone.

Anyone ever experienced something like this?
I'm at the end here. I got the data on the evohome and I got the output data of the evohome.
What more can I get to troubleshoot this?

My setup.
Latest evohome wifi with opentherm controller
Downstairs = 6x HR92 controlled by the evohome
Bedroom 1 = 1x HR92
Bedroom 2 = 1x HR92
Bedroom 3 = 1x HR92
Bathroom = 1x HR92
Garage = 1x HR92 (only for temperature measurement really)

Temperature displayed on HR92 with evotouch controller as a sensor

Hi,

i have zone configured with two valves HR92 and evotouch controller acting as temp sensor for this zone.
i configured valves to display current temp reading rather than setpoint - "avanced" configuration in HR92 allows you to do so - option "7", value "1".

do I understand it correctly that for evotouch being zone thermometer both HR92s should display what is coming from evotouch?

example:

first HR92 - reads temp1
second HR92 - reads temp2
evotouch reads temp3

ALL three show zone temp of temp3

?
and of course - in most cases these three should be close if not even identical. but its more about getting clear whats the design here?

Binding failure - suggestions please?

OK so without boring you with the details, I needed to factory reset the controller and start again.

So controller reset, add hot water manually - Water sensor added fine, BDR91 for water fine, then it asks for heating controller which also bound successfully. (both BDR91's had bene fully reset prior). And lo, hot water working perfectly!

But when I come to add the first HR92 (single zone, nothing unusual) it asks to bind the sensor, which binds successfully, sync then happens and the zone name appears on the HR92 - BUT then it then asks for the ACTUATOR to be bound. Now its not clear but I guess it is asking for the BDR91 that is the heating controller. This BDR91 will got into binding mode (remember it has already been bound via the hot water) BUT it fails to bind a second time for the first HR92.

It does not seem right that the controller is asking for a BDR91 to be bound twice, so I am stuck? Any suggestions welcome please!

PS - HR92 was fully reset, menu plus battery change plus binding clear). BRD91 are away from each other and not near large metal objects.

temperature measured by evotouch is bit higher than usual?

Hi,
I observed the last two days the temperature measured by evotouch is around 25 degrees, which I am sure it is not real room temperature.
We have unusual weather here in Dublin with temps around 18-20 degs now, but I do not believe it might be the cause.

the unit is wall mounted and when i look closer I can feel bit of warm coming from the unit.

it is not hot, just bit warmer than the room.
unit is a month old.

I checked batteries, seem fine.

do you know what might this might be?

the graph attached - green draw is temp reported from evotouch. do not mind the spike uesterday afternoon - it we me messing with sensor.

Evohome and floor probe for wet UFH under vinyl

$

Hi

I'm looking at installing Evohome as part of a large house renovation. I'd like to control some wet underfloor heating in a slab, where the flooring is going to be amtico or some other vinyl. These tiles can only be heated up to 27 degrees but it seems Evohome doesn't have a native facility for adding a floor temperature probe.

I've seen it suggested that you can put a second floorprobe specific thermostat "in series" with the evohome thermostat, but I don't really know what that means. This Honeywell FAQ document also suggests it is possible. https://ensupport.getconnected.honey...rfloor-heating.

1) Has anyone any experience of using a floor temp probe with Evohome? The UFH, boiler and thermostats will all be bought new, so if there's a system that works then I could probably get it.

2) Has anyone got Evohome running with UFH and vinyl without using a floor probe? It has been suggested that you just need to set the flow temperature in the UFH to a low enough temperature so that the floor never gets that hot. That makes me nervous given the cost of replacing the floor if you accidentally "cook" it.

The Evohome system will also be controlling a load of radiator zones via TRVs, and the hot water.

Any assistance gratefully received.

Peter

Simple (?) Evohome install?

Appreciate this may seem naive but I get lost with all the advice for installation and would just like to check my thinking. I'm a simple chap and think in a simple but logical way - so...
I have a Worcester Bosch Greenstar boiler with a Honeywell ST9400c programmer for the heating and hot water (in the airing cupboard next to the hot water cylinder although original wiring is also next to the boiler with a blanked off cover as I had it moved when the boiler was installed), and a simple Drayton thermostat in the hall controlling the whole house heating. Currently no TRVs on the radiators. The heating system is just so inefficient and I am replacing with Evohome. I want to do the change in stages to suit our personal situation.
Stage 1 - to replace all the radiator valves with TRVs. I have a friendly plumber/heating engineer who will do this as there are either 11 or 13 to install (see Q1)
Stage 2 - install Evohome wifi controller and BDR91 to control the whole house heating
Stage 3 - replace TRVs with HR2s and take full control of my heating.
Stage 4 (if required) install hot water control on Evohome.

Questions:
1) I read somewhere that in a vented system it is best not to put TRVs on Towel Radiators. I have 2 of these but would prefer to control them as they do get very hot. Is that true? If so what happens to them (ie when do they come on?)
2) Is the installation of the BDR91 for heating control a simple matter of replacing the Drayton thermostat with that and leaving the ST9400c programmed to provide permanent heating? If so that would be simple. I appreciate that if I go for hot water control via Evohome as well I will need the tank system adding but do I really need it as I can use the existing Honeywell ST9400c to continue to control that.

It seems too easy so I am guessing it won't be. Anyway any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

heating system from scratch in old flat

hello everybody, sorry if it's been already answered. i've been searching but apparently i couldn't find something on my particular case.

i just bought the flat next to mine. now that i'm renovating i would like to install a heating system. as is not a very insulated apartment, i'm thinking of radiators and not undlefloor heating.

as i would like to have two different zones (Day/living and night/bedrooms) how would i seutup plubing? as i understood with evohome you don't need zoning as the single radiator will call for heat, but still i would like to have two separate circuits just in case i would need to separate the flats again.

in such a case could i setup two zones (one per flat) and how would evohome work? would i need two different thermostats?

and now that netatmo and tado also have smart valves would they be a better option than evohome (they are nicer)? would they need two thermostats?

Thanks in advance

Faulty Wiser Radiator Thermostat

I have a, seemingly, faulty Wiser radiator TRV whereby the two outer lights flash and the centre light is on. This should indicate that it's ready to attach to the radiator but even after doing that and turning to either + or - it still remains the same. I've been in touch with Drayton and they said it does appear to be faulty and to return to where I purchased it. I therefore got in touch with Amazon and they said keep it and they'll refund it!

So, now I have a free TRV I'm just wondering if there's anything else I can try or whether I can take it apart (I've removed two screws from the underside but they don't appear to do anything?!

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like Wiser is catching up with Evohome

IOT visual feedback device

Dear all,

Apologies for a long post.

If this has been discussed before I do apologize, I can't find it. I don't even know what the name of the device I'm looking for is in the first place, so maybe it doesn't exist at all and that is why I can't find it. Or I am looking for the wrong name. Basically I want a simple IOT enabled "thing" that can display a different color depending on the state of another "thing". So for example when the house alarm is not set I would like something that visually reminds of that. And when I do set the alarm, I would like that something to change colour (from red to green for example). I could control the rules and actions through openHAB - I just need a simple device that can visualize the states for me. A little bit of history and context:

I have been approaching the world of "smart home" in stages over the last couple of years.

It started with the Honeywell evoHome heating system which I started using as a standalone. Then I discovered the Alexa skill - there is something quite gratifying about when you walk into a room, tell Alexa to set the heat to x degrees and you hear the boiler fire up

I then discovered the Python API and evohomeclient library that someone immensely clever had put together - which opened the world of scripting and interfacing with the heating that way.

Very recently I made the move to openHAB which I'm running on a Raspberry PI 3. It interfaces with Evohome, it turns the fish tank light on for me 10 minutes before nightfall, it sends text to speech message through Alexa to badger me about things I have failed (or forgotten) to do. It gets Alexa to tell me when I've left the bathroom heating on for over an hour. I also use Amazon Dash buttons as very cheap IOT enabled buttons / push devices.

I really really like it so far. I can control Zigbee and Z-Wave devices from openHAB also and will slowly start adding sensors and devices where appropriate. There is no rush (plus everything is SO expensive).

What I'm really after is a device I can use a visual feedback for a certain "thing" state without having to look at a screen. Is there such a thing as a simple (affordable) button or switch than can change colour based and is controllable through Zigbee or Z-Wave? I have seen that some wall switches and wall plugs have the ability to change colour. I don't even need to set different colours, a simple red/green or maybe even an on/off would do.

I hope what I'm asking makes sense - please let me know if I've missed something terribly obvious.

Many thanks

Martin

HC60NG now reduced to 6.5A

Does anyone know why Honeywell have reduced the maximum rating of the HC60NG from 10A to 6.5A? It still has a 16A relay onboard.

HC60NG-2.jpg

I've attached a photo - does anyone have an older 10A rated one that it can be compared against to see what the differences might be? The user guide is really messed up too with the new rating printed in some places and the old rating along with advice of maximum heating load of 2.3KW still in there stating it's 10A rated in the diagrams!

HR92UK - Battery replacement & voltages

$

I have kept a note of when batteries have been changed on each of the EvoHome devices since they were installed in September 2015.

It is quite clear to see that the HR92s which operate frequently use their batteries much quicker than those, for instance in a spare room where the heating may only be on for less than 30 days a year.

I also check the voltages, but until now have not always recorded them. All the replacements have been Duracell Industrial batteries. The voltage on installation, without load, is generally c. 1.6v, warning messages seem to start appearing when the voltage drops below c. 1.2 v, but can be ignored, as the HR92s seem to reset until voltage drops to about c. 1.1.

Shortest times between failures is about 15 months from September one year to December of the next year, longest over 2 years from September one year to October 2 years later.

I can now predict battery life reasonably well, and henceforth will change the batteries of "busy" devices every 12 months, and, in the interest of economy move them to the little used devices where hopefully I'll get another years use from them.

It would be interesting to hear of others experiences.

Evohome Hot Water

$

Hi

I've just installed an EvoHome system with the hot water kit to measure the temperature of my cylinder. I've put it into optimized start mode and can see the radiators getting switched on early to get the room up to temperature at the assigned time. However, my hot water is not coming on early.

Should the hot water be part of the optimization as well as heating?

Thanks

Nick

Attaching an HR92UK to towel rail

Hi All,

I have got an Evohome running with 5 zones(basically each room) and would like to add one to the toilet.

I have a chrome towel rail in the bath room and I know I need to use an adapter. Briefly looked at the Honeywell options but they are expensive and was wondering if there is an alternative ?

Also trying to work out if a towel rads have a standard diameter or do they vary ? I have a handy man coming to fix a few things this weekend and just wanted to buy the parts

Dont know if we are allowed to post links...Here is a pic of the radiator.

How do I check if my devices are supported with Openhab?

I searched the brands of my current devices at the binding list and I think only harmony is supported. Is there a way to make my other devices compatible?
OpenHAB is running on my local network how do I control automation when I am off network?
Should I be using a VPN or is there a web interface? I find OpenHab more challenging than Smartthings..

Thanks in advance!

Ignoring commands & Multiple Rads in a room

$

Hello all,

Having an issue with the final part of my Evo home install. I have a large bedroom with 4 slim rads in it. I thought I had added 4 rads to one zone all but the 3 seem to called actuators now. All works well except when I try the Away / all off buttons in Quick commands. The mode I want is activated however the boiler continues to run / green light on. No amount of waiting lets the boiler turn off. Now I looked at the Summary of use and said bedroom is the room at 100% calling for heat. Once deleted said bedroom system behaves apart from the odd ignore.

Any suggestions ?? I fearful of the system running away on its own.

Many thanks,

FLY

Odd change in setpoint shown in domoticz

My largest zone which has 5 rads and a DT92 is showing an odd behaviour in domoticz. It appears to go to a 5 degree setpoint for half an hour. I'm at work when this happens so can't see if this is "real" but it shows up on both the web api version and the HGI80 sensor.

Any clues?

Target temperature for little used rooms.

$

I live in a four bedroomed, mostly ancient, detached property in an exposed position.

There is some, probably 20% double glazing, the remaining windows being 100+ year old sash windows or leaded light. Walls are generally solid & thick, and the roof is exceptionally well insulated.

Evohome works very well for me but I have been considering target temperatures for two bedrooms & a bathroom which are only used when we have guests, probably 3-8 nights a month in winter. They are currently set to a constant 14 degrees, which they maintain with radiators warming up a few times every day to achieve this. I think I've got it about right but your suggestions would be welcome.

One thought is to lower the target to, say 10 degrees, and see whether the room temperature drops to 10 degrees, or settles at a higher temperature as a result of the adjoining rooms being at a higher temperature.

Thanks in advance.

Honeywell confirm application issues with IOS 11.4 upwards

I have had my Total Connect application crash on loading every time I start it, despite deleting and reinstalling - Honeywell UK support now confirm that there are issues with IOS 11.4 upwards that they are trying to fix, but do not have an expected fix date yet.

Again Honeywell, where are the proactive comms so critical to today's customer service that would have saved me hours of trying to fix this please?
