Using Y87RF as temperature sensor for Zone

Hello all.

I'm after some advice.

We have the HR92 valves on all the radiators in the house and I ma trying to use three Y87RF devices as the temperatire sensors for the 3 levels of our property.

However, I don't see this information on the minimal instructions provided by Honeywell.

Does anyone have a step by step guide they can lead me to?

Thanks,

Kevin

Evohome controller backup settings? Controller password PIN

Hi,

Is it possible to backup the settings on the controller?

I've been having a few issues and may need a new controller, is it possible to transfer, backup/restore the settings top a new controller?

One of my issues is the controller password / PIN, it doesn't accept what I was fairly certain was the correct PIN, is there any way to change the PIN or bypass it?

Thanks

evohome controller charging contacts

Hi I have a controller and recently it's been struggling to maintain power. Not charging and then charging. What I've now found is that on the back of the controller, the charging contact on the far right as you look at it the little spring strip that sits up is missing the little bit that dissapears back into the controller, so on a quick glance it looks ok but on closer inspection it's missing the 90 degree return bit. I can only assume this is causing my problems. My question is is there any way I can get around this? I don't need the battery to charge I just wanted the unit to power.

Quiet Window Blinds

Last year I installed two 12V Somfy made-to-measure window blinds in a bedroom complete with LTS remote to control them both.

I did wonder why the only video I could find of them in operation had a background muzak track rather than the actual sound of the blinds operating. Don't get me wrong, the blinds are great but I was a little surprised how much louder than expected they were. If I close both blinds simultaneously, at night, the whole house knows!

I see that Somfy now sell a range of motors from their 'Sonesse' range which they market for their quietness. Has anyone tried them and can compare them to the older models?

If they are appreciably quieter then it will be a case of finding a made-to-measure service that actually uses them.

Evohome heating radiators and hot water the same time

Hi. I’ve had my evohome system installed for over a year now on my unvented system. My water cylinder is in the loft of my house. When it was first setup the relays were bound wrong and the hot water relay kept coming on the same time as the rad one. I soon sorted this out after reading advice on here. The hot water and rad relays are now separate. My question is I don’t seem to be able to have the cylinder heat up the same time as the rads. The heating relay turns off when the water one comes on. Have I set something up wrong or is this the only way it works?

EvoHome - Optimizing

This is more of a curiosity than exactly an 'issue'.

What is the simplest / quickest way for me to start monitoring temperature / boiler usage? I don't particularly want to spend days messing with Python and Rasberry Pi's. I have a constantly on iMac and a MacBook I can hijack. I don't care about output formats and nice graphs or live updates, simple CSV would do the job perfectly well. By profession I'm a software guy, nearly all C++ on PCs, but beyond the stage of wanting to take work home with me. I just want something that works (I could even probably monitor off-site from one of my work PCs ;) ).

The 'non-issue' I'm having is that it seems no matter what I do to optimise my schedules, I use exactly the same amount of gas every day. The meter goes on 15 units. Has done since I started tinkering at the end of December. In fact, thinking about it, it has done since first using the system at the beginning of December when we didn't even have any HR92s fitted.

I've reduced some room temperatures / time ranges. I've reduced hot water heating schedules and the tank temperature (no, not unsafely). No matter what I do, when I go to the meter the next day in the hope of having maybe reduced usage... it laughs in my face and says 15 more gone. :D

This might be great, as we moved into the house and replaced the heating system from an ancient stinky oil boiler so have no idea what it would have cost to heat with a 'normal' system but I would love to know why, no matter what adjustments I make, the gas requirement is remaining constant.

The system consists of:
30kW Worcester CDi Classic
CenterStore 210l unvented tank
S-Plan with 2xBDR91 for HW and CH zones
16 HR92s in 9 zones
4 hallway radiators with standard TRVs set quite low to keep common areas well balanced
1 towel radiator, no TRV.

I don't use the 'optimise' feature of the EvoHome because most of the time I don't care if it gets a room up to temperature precisely at a set time. If I have a set point of 20 degrees at 6pm and the room was already quite warm, it might make it to 20 at 6:10, on another day it may make 20 at 6:20. This doesn't bother me. Is there any other benefit to optimize? Seems a lot of work to re-jig the start times of all my schedules for all my zones for not much difference

I figured monitoring is probably the only way to understand it but I'm open to any other tips of course!

can I have a bit of advice please? Evohome

Hi all,

I've read the forums as well as I can but I'm a bit of a newbie at this and I would really appreciate some pointers.

I'm doing a house refurbishment with a new extension. 1920s construction, internal insulation of external walls on the old bit with normal radiators everywhere apart from one cast iron reclaimed rad and two sections which have tiles where I'm having electric underfloor heating, new extension brick and blockwork with underfloor everywhere. It'll be quite sizeable (6 bedrooms and 4 reception rooms plus an entrance hall). I have some questions which I'd be super grateful for help with.

Electric underfloor:

In the family bathroom I'm also having a water towel rad which I was planning on having an HR92 to control the towel warmth and general room warmth. the idea of the electric underfloor is to have warm tiles but not really for the whole room. Can I connect the electric underfloor to my system easily? Can I group it in some easy way with the TRV? any other considerations?

In the garden room, which is to be tiled, I'm having electric underfloor and it has an open archway to the garden room which has a radiator and hr92. again, can I control all with evohome and can they link somehow?

Finally, I was considering putting it in the entrance hall which is of course continuous with the landing and the stairs. there are rads up and downstairs. can I use it in some way just to have a nice warm floor for coming home?

Cast iron rad:

I'm assured that the TRV will work with it. if it didn't, can you have a rad with a manual try in an evohome system. doesn't that mean heat would have to be running the whole time whereas if all the TRVs were off and all electric the boiler would know to switch off. sorry I'm totally clueless about this!!!

Wet underfloor system:

If I'm having a system boiler with two 200litre tanks, which bits do I need? do I need 2 hot water controllers? Also, should I ask for opentherm or is that irrelevant with hot water tanks?

finally, the boiler and tanks are going to be in the garage and because the place will be quite big when finished, I'm wondering if signal will be good enough all over the house. does it piggy back on normal wifi? I'll have two controllers because more than 12 zones, do they repeat and mesh in some way?

finally, finally, the system seems quite old now, are we due an upgrade and should I wait a few months before taking the plunge?

thanks so so much!!!

Loxone - Anyone taken a look for as an alternative to Evohome?

Been looking for a home automation system for some lighting and stumbled across Loxone in the process. Whilst looking into it for the lighting project, I found they do their equivalent to the HR92s in either battery 'Air' form or hard wired. Then their wall switches (Again hardwired or Air) act as Temperature and humidity sensors. Looked quite a neat solution to some of the issues that Evohome has. Obviously it involves a lot more configuration than just following a wizard on a controller as it's more home automation rather than a consumer based product.

So has anyone looked at it or has it (For heating control or other elements)? As think i'm going to bite the bullet and buy some stuff for the lighting project anyway.

Philips Master LEDs flickering when dimmed

Hi all,

I hope everyone has had a good start to 2019

Has anyone else noticed a flicker when dimming their LED GU10 bulbs recently? I mainly use the older Philips Master 6W bulbs and they have always worked perfectly but over the past few months pretty much all of them (around 150 bulbs in total) have developed a very noticeable flicker when they are dimmed. Even the slightly newer Philips Master 5W bulbs are flickering and they are in a room that is very rarely used so number of hours on them can be ruled out.

Anyone else noticed this? Any ideas as to what could be going on? This is starting to annoy me now

Thanks,
Nad

Is there any technical reason this can't be done. I had having to rely on Honeywell's servers, especially as they are going through maintenance and upgrading etc. It would be so nice to be able to stick in the local ip of the touchcontroller and use vpn or port forwarding while out etc...

anyway just a little rant as I keep finding they are down when I most want to use it..

HR92 Blocked after upgrade from HR80

Recently I upgraded my Evohome system with the latest evotouch controller (built-in internet gateway, electric zones, outside temperature display etc). I also replaced most of my HR80 radiator thermostats with HR92s.

The installation went very well.
I basically "started again", unbinding all devices (BDR91s, DTS92s, Y87RFs, CS92, HR80s). The HR92s were brand new. I used the guided configuration and had everything done in about 5 hours - most of that time was spent tweaking minor configs and settings.

Two weeks in, and the controller has learned the properties of each zone and the zone temperatures closely follow the configured set temperatures.

A few days ago I bought two new HR92s for two children's bedrooms. I'd replaced one of the children's HR80s with an HR92 during the main installation - and the other kids complained that their HR80s were noisier and less cool than their HR92-equipped sibling's!

I thought it would be a straightforward 10 minute job - but I hit a problem I thought I'd share here to maybe help others avoid falling into the same trap.

Here was my (with hindsight, flawed) plan.

Remove HR80 and remove batteries.
Fit HR92.
Bind HR92 to zone.

So far, all seemed to go well.

Then I wanted to disable local temperature adjustment. I did this from the zone config menu on the evotouch.

What happened next was unexpected... both HR92s displayed "blocked" on their LCD - that's all, just "blocked", no icons or temperature. Pressing the button caused the display to show as normal - but it would return to "blocked" after a few seconds. Rebinding, resetting the HR92 to factory settings both had no effect. (Note that the HR92 worked as expected under evotouch control - it was just the display that was "wrong".

Deleting and recreating the zones, then binding the HR92s also didn't solve the problem.

Because I was seeing the same issue with both HR92s I concluded that it was unlikely to be a hardware fault and more likely to be some obscure config issue, but repeated, and VERY CAREFUL following the installation manual didn't provide a cure.

I called Honeywell tech support and the engineer there basically took me through the same routines I'd already tried. He concluded that he had no answer. I suggested that perhaps I should try removing the HR92 batteries, pausing, then replacing the batteries. (By removing I mean opening the retaining clip).

This did the trick!

In summary, if you plan to swap an HR80 for an HR92 on a system using the latest Evotouch controller, first, delete the zone and then recreate it from scratch. Don't think think that removal of the HR80 and binding the replacement HR92 will do the job!

Hot water on Evo home Display says its off.

Hello all,

Odd actions this morning, all heating and hot water are set to go off at 7:20am. This morning the boiler was still running at 8 am. I looked at the control boxes and the Hot water had a green light on. I checked the Evo home display unit and it showed water off as programed. So I turned it back on left for a few mins then turned it off, however the control box stayed lit and boiler continued to run.
Pressing the button turned it off. I cycled the power but ran out of time as I had to leave for work.

Any thoughts ?

Many thanks,

FLY

Advice on Boiler efficiency

Hi All,

I have a question which i believe mostly professionals would be able to answer. I have an Evohome system which works with two valves, one for HW and one for heating the radiators (with HR92s). My boiler works with LPG (not sure if this is relevant). Does anyone know whether turning on the HW (HW BDR91) while the heating is on (Heating BDR91) is more cost effective compared to turning on the HW when Heating is off. Currently I would like to turn on HW 30-60 mins before i would like to use it (but sometimes during that time the heating is off since the house has already reached a good temperature).

I ve been hearing from "old school" professional that turning on the HW while the heating is on is more cost effective - but in some cases you might use the HW 6-7 hours later and there would be definitely some temperature loss.

Batteries - typical life and which type?

My system is approaching 15 months old so I'm starting to think about battery replacement. I've got 26 HR92s so that's a lot of batteries.

Having looked at battery specs and reviews I'm undecided about which brand, and whether to go for Alkaline or Lithium. Few batteries seem to have specified capacities and most reviews are subjective, not based on controlled measurements. Currently I'm leaning towards Energizer Ultimate Lithiums, but £65 (ouch!) for 50 is the best price I can find.
Clearly battery life will depend on usage, but it would be useful to know which batteries people have tried and how often they typically need replacing in HR92s and the CS92?

Evohome HW BDR not switching on

Further to solving the problems related to configuring HW along with Heating Valve (for radiators) [see https://www.automatedhome.co.uk/vbul...ng-as-expected ] , I am now facing another problem. When I configured the system, I switched on the heating (radiators) takes 2-3 minutes for HR92 to initiate and then BDR91 fires up. While the heating (radiators) BDR91 was on I switched on the HW and the 2nd BDR91 switched on instantly. after 5-10 minutes I switched off HW and 30 mins later the heating was off (as expected). Next day, when I tried to replicate the same scenario the HW BDR91 does not seem to fire up. I have even checked the system parameters (which i also uploaded as attachments) Can someone please have a look and advise why the HW BDR91 might not be switching on? Furthermore i d like to understand what the percentages mean in the system summary.

Thank you

I've been looking at Domoticz for the first time and am struggling to get it set-up. Some newbie questions:
  1. I have two controllers ("upstairs" and "downstairs"). When I <add hardware> the upstairs devices appear in the device list but how do I get the downstairs devices to appear?
  2. What will Domoticz do for me?

Replacing nest with evohome

I have a nest install off a condensing boiler today - so I have the gas boiler and a hot water tank. My heat link is upstairs with the hot water tank.

I am looking at replacing nest with evohome but wonder how complex the install will be - is it as simple as rewiring the nest heatlink box to the evohome kit?

I believe I will need the evohome WiFi controller set and also the hot water kit plus the TRVs I would need is that correct? Do I need to use a relay for both the heating and for the hot water or is it simpler than that?

If anyone can point to a simple guide that would be great, I am fine with setting up the system and the TRVs etc it’s just getting the wiring right I would like to ensure I am ok with it calling in someone if necessary
