I've been critical in previous posts but credit where it's due,
Evo has been performing pretty much according to my expectation for several months now. Apart from the odd drop out of remote login detail on my phone it's been rock solid as hoped for. My gas usage is definitely reduced, comfort levels are perfect now I can target heating and life feels way more comfortable.

Secrets are in the scheduling maybe and that becomes harder this time of year when those schedules can't be stored.
I hope things are also better for others out there.

Haunted EvoHome

From time to time our EvoHome system seems haunted. I mean, at times it's not following its program. Not often, but it's annoying.
2 simple examples:
1. Last autumn or so all of a sudden our bathroom zone (2 HR92's) jumped to the max temp (which I had luckily reduced from the max 35°C(?) to 26°C) for no reason. I think this happened twice.
Last year I called a Honeywell representative about this, and he said to do a full reset of the HR92s. He explained an undocumented trick: go to the bind menu of the HR92, and keep pressing the button for 5-10sec until it actually unbinds. Then add it to the zone again. He claimed this gets rid of any remnants from a previous zone config. I was doubtful but gave it a try, and this issue hasn't come up anymore since.
2. Today both our living room zone (4 HR92's) & bathroom zone were set to 16°C. While they should have been 20.5 and 19° respectively since 16:30. My wife noticed the zones were still green when she came home from work, while they should have been orange. She took a picture of the console to prove it to me.
IMG-20190516-WA0000.jpg

We don't have kids or pets that potentially mess about with the HR92's. This just happens on its own.

Anyone else having this?
Is there a way to get logs from the console, so I can have a bit more insight on what's actually happening? (I'm an IT guy, so I love logs :p)
Any other tricks to undocumented tricks prevent this?

Evohome + intergas xclusive. Low heat demand

$

Hello

I have been using evohome for over 2 years with an old ariston boiler via bdr91. It worked ok, however it was a time to replace a boiler and have chosen intergas exclusive paird via opentherm.

The system is working fine however there is one problem that bugs me.

My doughters bedroom is about 0.5-1c colder then the rest of bedrooms. During night we have bedrooms set at 19C. While another 2 bedrooms can retain the heat, my doughters bedroom is at constant low heat demand around 2%-4% during night, which causes the boiler to cycle for around 45seconds every 10min cycle. Its quite annoying as her radiator doesnt even have a chance to heat up for this short period of time.

Is there any way to restict the boiler/boiler to wait for a higher heat demand?

I ve tried to change the cycle on evohome to 3 rather then 6 but the setting is ignored. Why is that?

I ve noticed that boiler has an openthrem parmater to only respond to heat if demand is greater than 30%. Which may be solution.

Any clues what to do.

Drayton Wiser Experience on a large system.

A while ago I had a few conversations here about what to do with my new heating system, so thought I'd post details of how I did it and a few glitches I had to solve along the way:

My system: 2 Worcester Boilers into a low loss header with 3 outflow channels: DHW, Central Heating 1 (lower 2 floors), Central Heating 2 (upper two floors). Approx 15 rads on each of the central heating circuits. Each circuit on has a zone valve and it's own Grundfos circulator pump on it. All a completely brand new install in a large victorian house over 4 floors.

Wiser system: Wiser 3 channel Kit, 2 x Room Thermostats, TRVs on all rads apart from the towel rails (3 of them, all on heating circuit 2).

Wiring
: This was the first time that the heating company that fitted our heating system had installed a Drayton Wiser system, and they needed to get in a little extra help for wiring the box to control the zone valves and pumps and 2 boilers correctly, but didn't seem to be too much of a problem in the end. They sorted the system to the stage where it was powered on and worked 'manually' and then I did all the smart stuff.

TRV Bodies: I installed 30 odd new rads, and so needed TRV bodies to match up with the drayton TRV Head - I bought the Drayton TRV4 valve bodies on their own - found them on eBay and they were £8 each.

Initial set up via the app.
This was tricky, and has a number of glitches that got me quite angry at the time. My problem: Could create a local account (part 1 of the setup, ie. set up the system in our own house), and could set up an online account (part 2 of the setup), but then got errors every time their system tried to pair the online user account to my house/hub account. The Drayton customer service team were excellent on this front, and eventually made enough suggestions that it worked. They are very good at answering the phone (usually get to speak to a real person within 30seconds), and the same person called back or emailed frequently until the problem was sorted, so I didn't have to explain it over and over again). If you get this problem, the things I did that ended up sorting it were:

  • Put wifi router into manual channel mode, rather than auto-channel
  • Disabled mobile data on my phone while in setup mode
  • Used a separate laptop for the email verification part.
  • Deleted anything on the registration form that was 'Autofilled' by my phone and re-entered it manually, and entered house name as only a number, and place I live as ONLY the first word, and the Postcode with NO spaces

Once I got passed this hurdle, it's worked perfectly.

Signal issues
My house is victorian, has thick solid walls, and takes 6 google wifi hubs to get my wifi-signal around the house satisfactorily. Signal was therefore high on my list of worries! I have been very pleasantly surprised...
I have 3 'smart plugs' , One on each of the ground, 1st, 2nd floor, acting as signal boosters. I have had zero problems with signal, and they all work nicely! Have been really pleasantly surprised by it.

TRV Noise
I don't know how loud the honeywell/tado/heatgenius ones are, but the Wiser ones certainly don't wake me up, and i'm a light sleeper.

TRV Look
They look a lot less intrusive than the Honeywell ones

Wall Thermostat
Key info on this: it overrides any TRVs in the room, so good if you've got a room with multiple rads in when the TRVs are hidden behind sofas or something.

Anyway, hope that is helpful to anybody looking at what to do; I would certainly recommend the system, as long as you're willing to get a little bit hands on at the start.

We're having work done on our CH system which requires the boiler to be on... The plumber wants to simply be able to turn the boiler on but if we take all the heads off it stops.

There must be an override somehow?

To my esteemed forumites,

I've been reading many of the articles and seem to have just gone round in circles and am now totally confused. So looking for you to bear through my ramblings and provide your expert advice. I looking for options, budget is tight but not non existent!

I am doing a whole renovation and will be looking to rewire for automation & home cinema -

For the Home Cinema Im thinking of independent audio and video/tv to at least two zones but possibly 4 TV and 8 audio (if its not to much different)

Initial setup thoughts -
CAT 6e

https://www.blackbox.co.uk/gb-gb/fi/...MHz-solid-PVC/

• 4 to each tv point
• 1 to wall controller
• 1 to highest point in middle of house for Ubiquiti WIFI
• CAT6e with HDBaseT to PJ for 4k or should I use Hybrid HDMI from downstairs PJ and lounge TV zone
• Optical cable in main zones back to amp
• Subwoofer cable (RCA) to sub point from Amp
• RCA to record player
• Speaker wire to low points in lounge to wall speakers
• Freeview aerial? via RF - min 1 X RG6
• 1 from virgin media entry point to hub
For home alarm recording to a NVR -

• CAT 5e to POE camera
• CAT 5e to motion points and door sensors
• CAT5e to video doorbell and back to room plate for video panel
• CAT 5e to alarm box

For lighting -

• Philips Hue?
• Lightwave RF? – Can do heating as well?
• LED Strip lighting in channels
o For the ground floor living room I need ceiling LED strip lighting. Room size approx 3mx5m. I also want above kitchen cabinets 4m run and 5 m run.
For the ground floor entrance hallway and stairs I was looking at LED strip lighting on top of the skirting boards. These would come on based on either darkness, time or movement.
For the first floor I want low level LED spots in the en suite and bathroom, I also want LED strip lighting in the landing. Again these would come on based on either darkness, time or movement. Ideally movement in the bathrooms
For the second floor I want the same as first in the bathroom and stair and landing
For the heating -

Needs to control rads, water based UFH and electric UFH

• EVOhome? https://theevohomeshop.co.uk/
• Heatmiser?
Others
• Velux control (open/close)
• and
• Mycroft.ai for open source voice assistant (non cloud based)

So if you have got this far...thank you. As you can see I want to do a lot and am feeling lost and bewildered on my choices!

Any advice is very much appreciated.

HR92 "NO SYNC" message

$

Two of my HR92 units are displaying this on the LCD screens... one in a single-radiator zone, the other in a two-radiator zone. I am not being reported any issues on the controller unit but neither of those rooms seems to be working.

Does it mean these have somehow got unlinked and need to be re-paired? I assumed Google would give me an obvious answer but I couldn't see one. Is there a page that lists all the possible messages the units can show?

By the way I also realised when checking everything I cannot tell which HR92 is the master in a 2-radiator zone. Is there supposed to be a little icon or do I just have to remember? I want to make sure the radiator with best airflow is the one being used as thermostat.
Thanks.

Evohome mixed setup: combining UFH w/ rad zones

$

Hi,

First post, thanks for having me!

At home I have an evohome wifi system running, which I am adjusting to the new situation in home. We got some legacy ufh and as part of a rebuilding we now got ufh installed in some additional rooms. Until now I have had 7 zones of rads only and now added two more for two additional small rooms. This went well and without any issues. I also added the OpenTherm bridge (R88180) to the boiler. The evohome is added to my Synology Domoticz setup and working perfectly as such.

But now I want to add the ufh to the system also. In total I have three manifolds providing 4 zones consisting of 7 loops:
- Zone 1 living room (3 loops, manifold 1)
- Zone 2 hallway (1 loop, manifold 1)
- Zone 3 pantry (1 loop, legacy manifold 2)
- Zone 4 bathroom (2 loops, manifold 3)
The manifolds are not in the same rooms.

Manifold 1 is connected to a HCE80, the loops for the living-room combined in one zone and this zone I added to the evohome living-room zone as UFH, but to an existing zone with an convector controlled by an HR92, where the sensor is the evohome. Testing by adjusting the temp to 30 degrees Celsius results in both the convector as well as the HCE80 to open up and start spreading heat. Is this an "allowed" configuration? For the bathroom and the hallway/pantry (both may be controlled as one zone) I would like to do the same since both have HR92 in the same area: so add a ufh to existing zone. See above: is this "allowed"?

Hardware-wise I am still struggling a bit: I do not want to add two HCE80s extra to my config, since that would be to expensive. So I came up with two ideas:
1. Connect a bdr91 to the pump and add thermal actuators (same as w/ the hce80) to them and add the BDR91 as zone valve to the existing evohome zone. Is this compatible with the modulating OpenTherm bridge?
2. If not, I thought about replacing the manual actuators of the manifold by hr92's (add this to the corresponding evohome zone) and use the BDR91's for the pumps (and add this as zone valve to the same evohome zone).

If this works I know I will need (to check w/ the plumber if the is) a bypass for the boiler.

I am curious about your thoughts about my setup and your opinion on the options above (or maybe even better ones). Thanks very much.

Regards

Difference between Honeywell Home and Total Connect Comfort branding

$

Could any of the Honeywell/Resideo employees lurking here perhaps enlighten us as to the difference between the Honeywell 'Home' API and the TCC API, other than TCC's API being unofficial while Home is publicised?

https://developer.honeywell.com/api-methods

The Evohome TCC app on iOS starts up with a splash screen that brands it as Honeywell Home but then the Home API webpage does not mention Evohome as falling under 'Home' and indeed it doesn't. This is confusing. Also, there is a Home API category 'Smart Home Security' which seems not to encompass Evohome Security or Le Sucre. Is there any API for them?

Finally, how can one get an API-key for TCC these days? Emails to HoneywellAPISupport@honeywell.com are ignored. In the past, we were told on these forums that Honeywell wanted us all to have our own API keys...

Is there a definitive list online, or can anyone give me some handy "ok Google..." commands that should work?

Evohome Controller Multiple Comms faults

$

Hi All,
I wonder if anyone can advise me at all.
I have had an Evohome system installed for around 2/3 years now, its with the Wifi enabled controller, driving 9 radiator/zones all with HR92's I have a standard boiler with tank so also have the controllers for Hot Water, a tank thermostat and Central Heating Controller.

All has been perfectly fine for the last 3 years or so, I have come home from work today and I have 4 zones that are all reporting that they have comms faults either with the sensor or the actuator.
Also the stored hot water sensor is showing a fault, as is the actuator for the Central Heating and the Hot Water.

Both of the devices that control the Hot Water and Central Heating 3 way valve are also showing a RED led.

Some of the zones are showing temps on the controller others aren't, even one of the zones with a coms fault it actually still showing a HR92 temp which is weird. On the HR92's some are showing the message comms, others No Sync. I have tried do a comms check (not sure exactly how to do it apart from selecting comms check in the menu). When I do it for any device it says not received for everything.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be.

I have ensured I have change the batteries in the HR92 devices when any alerts have been seen on the HR92 Radiator controllers, I have never seen any messages about changing the batteries on the 3 way valve controllers or the Hot Water thermostat.

If feels a bit like something has caused this, possibly a firmware update or something.

I didn't install the system, I had someone install this for me a while ago, but they don't seem to be able to advise or help in this instance.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Replace timer for 400w immersion with Sonoff T1?

$

Hi all,
I've got a tiny 400w heater in my bathroom towel radiator. It's controlled (as a fused spur) by a dumb timer switch, which is at the back of a built-in wardrobe in the bedroom.
I've got the twin&earth coming into the metal back-box, and another twin&earth heading out to the heater.

I want to be a bit smarter, only running this if the heating hasn't been on (which I monitor from my Nest via node-red), at different times on different days, and not if I'm away.
The Sonoff T1 'touch' light switch seems cheap at a tenner and flashable.

My questions:
Is it electrically safe to use this device (or any light switch) to switch a 400w heater? (Spec says Max. Power: 600W/gang.)
Will the 'touch' light switch be activated by clothes brushing against it (remember it's a the back of a wardrobe!).
Are wifi switches OK with a metal backbox?

Any alternative devices or approaches, or other advice much appreciated.
Cheers,
Tony

HomeKit

I asked Honeywell about future integration with Honeywell. The reply received today reads:

“At this time, evohome is not integrated with Apple HomeKit.

We are constantly evaluating the offerings in the connected home arena and determining and resetting priorities. Future integration with Apple HomeKit is a distinct possibility but we are unable to commit to any dates at this time.

Please bare in mind that the Apple HomeKit is just one eco-system and evohome plays nicely with Google Home, Amazon's Alexa, and IFTTT.

For users that specifically want Apple HomeKit support the T6 Lyric Thermostat is the best option.”

Now if I went the T6 Lyric route it would cost me about £1000. Quite some time back Evohome did work for a very short time with HomeKit and then it disappeared. If it can be done with Google then it can be done with Apple. Unless I am not seeing the wood for the trees, when you search around Honeywell with respect to the subject one reads an awful lot about Home and such but very little about Evohome. Does this mean the end of line for Evohome is coming towards us? I hope not for the product is fine but it does need to be brought more up to date than it is. By now we ought to be seeing integration across the board with the likes of Apple.

On the other hand the use of the words “Future integration with Apple HomeKit is a distinct possibility” may mean yes, it is to happen. But then why not tell us? It is hardly a secret that needs must be kept.

Bosch Smart Thermostat or evoHome

I am complete newbie, but need to order a control for my new boiler. Should I go for evoHome as it seems it has more features than any other systems? Looks like Bosch are working on improving their controls too and might be very reliable.
So hard to choose the right control. Ideally I need reliability and comfort.

Any thoughts are really appreciated.

I've also been reading about e-UFH, and looks like there is no system on market compatible with it so it e-UFH works together with normal heating. So I will go with a standard individual control for my e-UDH and the rest will be smart thermostats from one of those companie son the market.

Evohome and OpenTherm Compatibility with Glow Worm Boiler

$

The following was posted in another thread but I suspect may have been lost in the noise.

I am considering buying the OT bridge for my Evohome system, however I need assistance in determining if my boiler will be a goer. I have a Glow Worm Flexicom 30 SX. The following states that the boiler is unofficially compatible when using the correct VR33 module:

https://myboiler.com/opentherm/opent...pable-boilers/

Further reading from the below article suggests that the compatible module will be a AWB OPENTHERM MODULE 0020036768.

https://myboiler.com/opentherm/vaillant-opentherm/

Can anyone confirm either way from the below images of the boiler's PCB if the module is definitely compatible?

Evohome - zone appears to be stuck in 'learning'

$

Firstly my apologies if this is the wrong place to post this - I'm new here and couldn't find the answer in any other thread. Mods please feel free to move it as necessary.

I am a user rather than an installer, but took an active role in the installation so I could understand any problems that arose.
I have had an evohome system fitted and running successfully for ~6 years now.
Following some recent maintenance it appears to be stuck in 'learning mode' on one zone

The installation comprises 12 zones with 5 BDR91 relay boxes controlling 5 valves

Valve 1 responds to demand from any of the radiators in zones 1-9 fitted with Smart Radiator Valves
Valves 2,3 and 4 respond to demand from 3 DT92E thermostats
Valve 5 responds to demand from the hot water system

Recently I had comms problems with valve 2 (Zone 10) - it kept dropping out even though the batteries were new. In order to maintain service I ordered a replacement DT92E/BDR91 kit to swap out the faulty DT92E.
The BDR91 is in a challenging place to access so I decided to leave it in place and bind the replacement DT92E to it.
I deleted the zone associated with Valve 2 in the controller.
I reset the stored data in the BDR91
I successfull bound the new DT92E to the old BDR91 and created a new zone in the controller - so far so good ...

The controller can see the new DT92E and it shows the correct zone temperature
I added a new simple schedule to the zone for all days of the week (typically temp between 15 and 18.5C)

Once everything had settled, zone 10 radiators came on and the temperature in the area increased dramatically to ~25C before the radiators started cooling
subsequently they came on regularly throughout the day over a period that now exceeds 6 days.

I assume this is 'learning' as the heating system is currently set to 'off' with only heating on.

Today the temperature cycling has once again hit 27C and my gas bill is clearly increasing day by day!

Has anyone else seen this sort of behaviour and have any idea what is happening and how to fix it?

Thanks

Smart Heating Controls

Hi All,

Doing a large home renovation currently. Have had wet underfloor installed downstairs, split into 4 different zones. Upstairs will be radiators in bedrooms and on landing and then two bathrooms, each with electric underfloor.

I want to be able to control all heating from my phone, preferably from one app. When I open the app, I would like to see each of the 4 zones downstairs, one on/off control for all radiators (temp controlled from rads themselves), and then see the two bathrooms.

Is there a one stop solution for this please. I have been looking at heatmeiser thermostats as they seem quite user-friendly. I wasnt sure if they could do my radiators and / or underfloor too?

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks
