Re-install time

It seems that my Cortex PC hard disk is suffering from accumulated errors, given that I am getting a lot of random crashes and CHKDSK found a bunch of stuff to clean. Disk surface was good, but I have a new SSD anyway. Went to install and found the DVD drive can't read the disk, got the CD drive cleaner and found the brushes have disintegrated. Went to put install media on USB and found you can't make it bootable from a VM running an a Mac. 'Eck.

Realised that all my backups are all very well for Cortex data and catastrophic failure of a hard drive, but don't really provide an answer to long-term degradation of Windows itself - you can never really know when it degraded to know what backup to use and in this circumstance might as well re-install clean).

So I am looking at creating an up to date slipstream install stick to try and reduce the time taken to get up and running.

1) Am I missing any easier routes (Windows OEM so can't use the Windows repair option)?
2) Anybody else slipstreamed an install media upto and including the "Convenience rollup" successfully?
3) Can I simply re-use the install key and lock codes in the Registration backup to get Cortex fully licensed again, or is a key transfer required (it is the same PC)?

Comms Error to Heating Control at exactly the same time everyday

Hello,

I had Evohome installed a few weeks ago. We've for HW and Boiler control relay linked into the latest wifi controller.

I'm scratching my head a little bit as I'm getting a Comms Error with the Boiler relay at 16:46 every single day. You can set your clock by it. On the error log I'm also getting a Restore notification at 13:36 every day.

It does not seem to have any impact on the system though. The heating is always off at the moment but I tried and override on a valve just after 16:46 and the boiler fires up as expected.

FWIW the electrician has installed the HW and the Boiler relays too close together so I'm getting him back in to move them apart. But if this was the cause I'd expect more random drops ? Any ideas?

Thanks

Weird non-existant comms error

Well that's another 2 hours wasted on an EvoHome error.

Is it me or EvoHome?

I still have one or two HR80 actuators on my system and I decided to change them to HR92s. Simple eh?

It all seemed to go OK but later in the evening I saw a the red triangle next to my Kitchen zone on the Evotouch.

Evotouch and the actuator are only six feet apart so I knew I had good signal strength.

I deleted the Kitchen zone and re-binded - no change. I tried another actuator - the red triangle was still there! Huh?

Everything was working fine except for the red symbol being present.

It wasn't until I ran a signal strength check - putting the actuator into Checking mode and ran Check from Evotouch that I noticed the red error symbol had disappeared.

Does it say anywhere in any of the documentation that to clear the red comms error symbol you need to run a strength test?

Is it me or Evohome?

HR92 Lost comms. problem

All of a sudden my evohome wi-fi controller has been reporting lost comms. with an HR92.

The HR92 itself doesn't show any indication of a communications problem. The set temperature was 8 degrees, so I decided to increase the temperature locally to 19.5 on the HR92 to see what happened. As expected the valve opened, but unexpectedly the Android app. and the Wffi controller both displayed 19.5 not 8 as being the target temperature, BUT both continued to show lost comms. Prior to increasing the set temperature from 8 to 19.5 degrees both displayed 8 degrees.

The boiler fired up, but the wifi controller & Android app both continued to show lost comms.

Anyone have any idea please as to what is going on & how to solve it?

apologies, im new to this so Ive had a quick youtube/google for knowledge.

I have a heatrae megaflow boiler in a all electric flat

looking at the boiler it has 2 thermostats elements immersion as above

last year the boost switch which gives me extra hot water failed so i ignored it, the boost switched on gave extra hot water when needed.

Last week the 2nd thermostat stopped working, so no hot water, So i called a plumber and paid a £90 call out fee, he had a look and quoted me £700ish parts labour, 2 thermostats or immersions elements thingy and boiler drainage.

I said id think about it, as i thought it was very expensive . I bought a thermostat online from you tube knowledge for 25.00 quid its a original or oem part.

I fixed the thermostat in the top spot of the boiler, i believe this controls the boost function.

But when the hot water gets hot, water squirts out from the thingy and into a open pipe, so I have to switch off the boost and use the hot water to stop the squirt.

this is the thingy and you can see water in between the ********

can anyone tell me why hot water come out and if that is normal? if it is not normal then what do I need to do to make it normal,

Im thinking change the thermostat from the boost and place it in the bottom slot, ?

Evohome wifi - BDR91 Failsafe - Pulling out hair with frustation!

Hi All,

I've just moved house, and used it as an excuse to upgrade our old B&W evotouch to the latest wifi version, along with 8 new HR92 valves (purchased from the evohome shop). 4 HR80s are carried over from the previous installation.

The problem I'm having is that the boiler cycles every 10 mins, whether there is heat demand or not. It appears to be the failsafe kicking in, however failsafe is disabled in the evohome head unit.

I've tried to be methodical with trying to figure out what's going on:

I've tried multiple factory resets + batteries out of the controller.
Reset all of the HR units. When active the HR units respond to changes of temp from the controller the HR92s report overrides back to the controller.
Reset the BDR91 multiple times.
Changed the BDR placement - moved the controller to be 3m line of sight from the BDR, moved the BDR91 so it's sat in 50cm of free air dangling by the cable, even tried the old BDR91.
Wondering if it was a rogue HR unit, I have pulled the batteries out of each one by one to see if one of them is triggering it, but even with all of the HR's with no batteries it still triggers once every 10 minutes.
If I unplug / take the batteries out of the controller (so there are no active evohome devices at all bar the BDR) it will still trigger once every 10 minutes.
Signal strength between the controller in it's normal location is reported as excellent, 5 flashes on the BDR.
No comms failure logs are created.
We are in a rural location so I don't think that neighbours etc could be interfering with comms.

If I do a full reset and set up a single zone (default of the living room) with a single HR92, it *seems* to behave itself. If I add more zones that's when the boiler cycling seems to start. I've gone though both the guided setup and manually adding zones and end up with the same result both times - boiler failsafe.

I've got it all unplugged with the batteries out for yet *another* full reset, but does anyone have any suggestions?

Amazon echo?

Anyone pre-ordered one? If you have you'll be pleased to know
Evohome and SZT thermostats work well with it. Supports the smart zoning nicely. I.e. "Alexa make my living room 21c". I have played with it and the echo is goood bit of kit.

Bind HR80 to evohome wifi

Hi

Following on from this thread:

http://www.automatedhome.co.uk/vbull...ith-frustation!

Every time I try and bind an HR80 radiator valve to my wifi evohome system, it seems to bind fine, but then the boiler relay will enter failsafe mode and trigger for a few minutes every 10 minutes. If I delete the zone and reset the boiler relay, it will behave as normal.

For those of you that have HR80s with the wifi evohome, what was the binding process you followed? If I follow the following process it all seems to go OK, but then the boiler will kick in 10 mins later...

"I Created a new zone, added an HR80 (pressed bind button when putting batteries in to clear previous menu. Pressed bind again when requested by the controller. Waited until it stopped saying 'SYNC'. Pressed next on controller, pressed bind again, waited until it stopped saying sync then the green tick on the controller). Display of HR80 shows the desired set temp (5C as the system is 'off'). Controller shows room temp from HR80."

Anyone else had similar problems?

Thanks

Jon

Red Dot on Hot Water heating

How come the Red Dot shows up when during an ON time of heating the hot water even after the water has reached it's target temperature and the BDR91 has switched off? Is that by design? I previously thought the Red Dot was to show that the water was being actively heated.

Forcing radiator valves to 35C

$

My previous non Wifi evohome was able to force the radiator controllers to go to 35C aka ON. Now when the evohome sets the radiator to 35C, it shows 35C as the target for some time but then after a while the target on the evohome and the radiator controller is shown as 30C. Who is changing this? The max on my evohome is set to 35C.

I've not suggesting that I ever have this as my normal setup but to run the entire system prior to the winter I set all the radiator valves to max and let the system run for some time to get things flowing properly again before I go around bleeding the rads.

Honeywell evohome zoning issues

Hi

I've had the evohome system installed and am currently using 4 radiator valve heads (HR92) to create 4 separate zones in the kitchen, living room, bathroom and nursery. All the valves work and are turning on their respective zones. The strange issue I'm having is whenever I turn on any zone that 'ISN'T' the living room, the living room will also turn itself on and can't be switched off unless you turn the zone off that was turned on originally.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or might know a fix.

Thanks

Evohome range

Hi All,

looking at evohome but wondering about the range in house. House has three floors, normal sized 10 year old detached. Combi boiler is in kitchen on ground floor. There will be four evohome TVR's on each floor (other radiators will be left as is) and the thermostat/controller will be kept in living room on ground floor.

One other issue is that we have a combi boiler combined with a Gledhill systemate 2000 thermal storage. If anyone has any direct experience of connecting evohome to that i'd be interested in hearing how they've gone about it.

Thanks all and thanks for help.

Ecohome questions

Hi

Really interested in getting evohome system for a house I've recently moved into, have a couple of questions I hope you guys can help with.

1. Currently have a Honeywell timer (ST6400C) and rotary dial thermostat installed in a nice central location, would I be able remove these and use their existing wiring to the boiler to locate the BRD91 nice and centrally?

2. I have a room with both UFH and Rads can the evohome cope with these in the same zone?

Thanks

Is there an issue with the Evohome apps at the moment (2016-09-25)?

I got an email at 0625 this morning to say the server had lost contact with my heating system, and both the Android and iOS apps are reporting that communication has been lost. But I data log my system every 15 minutes using my own script, and that is working fine. Data is coming through for both current room temperatures, but also set point changes made using the controller.

Just in case I've rebooted my router and gateway, and get green lights everywhere. The controller is happily talking to the gateway (but seeing as I'm still logging data that's not really a surprise).

Is anyone experiencing an outage?

And is there a Honeywell status page that gives you the current status of the system / known faults?

Wall light switches that work with Amazon Echo?

Hi all,

So the Amazon Echo is going to be delivered tomorrow :D Can't wait!

But any recommendations on wall light switches that work with the Echo in the UK please?

All of the ones I've seen are for the US, particularly the WeMo which as far as I can gather is the most popular one.

I have HomeEasy switches everywhere in the house and it's a bit of a shame that I can't use them :(

Thanks.

Evohome Apple Home Kit - A Fantasy?

$

I invested in the Evohome setup a year or so ago, (just before home kit was announced), but I'm a massive fanboy of Apple (or any other one-system fits all) so I've started looking at options for a single all-compatible solution for my home and I must say, I'm not that impressed by what's around for the non-super-technical, there is no real direction one can go for control that doesn't require several Apps and I have a passionate dislike for products that are plug and play like wifi plug controllers. I want my home to look smart as well as be smart so if it isn't hidden, I'm not interested.

Anyway, my specific question relating to heating. With the Evohome not being compatible due to a lack of Apple Home Kit chip, is there an alternative controller from Honeywell that can control the TRVs I have (Lyric?) or are Honeywell likely to produce another controller that can be a hot swap for the non Home Kit version do you think?

Web URL Based Automation App

Hi,

I have a control product that uses web URLs to send commands to a programmed control pad but the manufacturer's web interface is pretty poor and non-configurable. What I need is a bit of advice on how to put a button into a website that I create that when clicked, goes to this URL in the background so it doesn't mess up the front end.

Where xxx is the IP, the Url command is http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/rpc/button_click?id=1

There are 8 buttons id=1 through to 8 and sending that url will click the button. The rest I can sort out but I'm really stuck in how to send the above in the background as the web software I use will either open that URL in the current window or a new window or tab.
